do you wanna build a snowman?
Frost spreads out from underneath his fingertips, glazing across the window in fern-like patterns until it curves into the shape of a bat on the glass, and Jack smiles as he crouches catlike on her sill. His toes hug the wood as he parts the window open, taking a silent step inside without much care for invitation or otherwise. It's like a game, sneaking in and trying not to wake her, and Jack would like to think he wins it more often than not.
Tonight, he's lounging himself sideways beside her bed, lazily up in the air. It's one of those kinds, the quiet ones, peacefully cold out, and with enough flakes coming down that most of everyone is shut up tight. He doesn't always mind nights like these. It's just a sometimes thing, like hopscotch and little kids and other people who hadn't heard of him. Sometimes he just needs a little noise to fill up the spaces, maybe what's bringing him here tonight.
Jack flops back onto his staff and lays splay-legged over the thing, fingers and toes wiggling in anticipation. "Man, you get to be a heavier sleeper by the day."

"Some king."

Jack can't help the yelp that comes out of him when Cass gets him so successfully pinned, thrashing about in the blankets. His feet kick unhappily around at the air as if he might wriggle his way out from underneath. Not really any such luck, but he does nearly punch her in the face a few times. "This is no way to respect your elders!"
His legs give one last riotous kick as he manages to wrench himself free with a flourish, a triumphant and subconscious little puff of tiny snowflakes that dissipate as soon as they're there. He slips out and lands on his feet with a laugh, trying to yank the blanket free from her bed. "That's how you wanna play?"

He might know that. She doesn't really know how his powers work or just how long he's been a presence in her life before she started to hear him and then see him. That doesn't matter though, what matters is he's here now and she believes in Jack Frost and that will never go away.
"Maybe." She stands on the bed, bouncing a little on it as the mattress shifts under her weight and just watching to see what he'll do with that blanket now that he's got it. "If I can't sleep, should do... something that's fun."

He has seen it in Cass, the years that he's gotten to know her, little by little and largely unseen. Not sadness, per se, but like there's a piece missing, sometimes. He can see it come back to her when they play around, almost revitalizing, and it's more than trade enough for his visits. It's as much for her as it is for him.
Besides, it's not often adults can see him. She's something special in that kinda sense.
His fingers fumble a bit with the fabric but he seems to be determinedly tying that blanket around his neck, like a cape. It hangs heavily onto the floor and engulfs him almost completely, but he stands high and proud like some king, up on his toes. "What if I showed you something really cool?"
no subject
She jumps off the bed to help him tie the blanket properly, a small smile tugging at her lips as she looks up at him. She's excited, not at all shy to let it show.
"Something cool other than you?" Look at her, making puns. He probably has Stephanie Brown to thank for that. "Show me."

He's spent enough time coming up with them. It's admittedly nice to have someone to actually hear them.
With a bound upward he's in one of the corners by the ceiling, crouched into it and grinning widely for the prospective. "Tell me, Cassandra," he asks as he draws the cape over his face as though he were a vampire. "Is it time for an adventure?"
no subject
"Most nights, yes." Just look at her occupation, after all. There's rarely a night when she isn't doing something exciting, but it's impossible to deny that his version of an adventure will probably be much less dangerous and more fun-based. "What's your plan, Jack?"
